The State Plant Service under the Ministry of Agriculture was established on 1st of July, 2010 by reorganizing and merging the three state institutions: the National Plant Protection Service, the State Seed and Grain Service under the Ministry of Agriculture, and the State Plant Varieties Testing Centre. The further transformation occurred when 7 variety testing stations were added on 1st July, 2011.

The result of structural changes - more efficient and more rational management of the state institution.

The Service implements the strategic goal of the Ministry of Agriculture - to enhance public health and consumer protection with regard to food safety and quality, to ensure plant and animal health controls.

The Service‘s competence areas: phytosanitation, plant protection product registration and control after the registration, storage, use and accounting controls of fertilizers, registration of plant varieties, legal rights granting for plant varieties, and quality control of plant propagation material and plant products.
